Paranormal Symposium set to launch

Speaker Dennis Balthaser is known as a respected UFO investigator. Photo courtesy Janet Sailor
Event in Angel Fire focuses on UFOs, crop circles, ghosts and more
By Tempo staff
Saturday, September 5, 2009 7:02 AM MDT

The long-awaited Paranormal Symposium that has been hovering in the atmosphere above Northern New Mexico is getting ready to land in the resort community of Angel Fire. “With more than a dozen high-profile paranormal speakers and practitioners,” the event planned Sept. 11-13 is “shaping up to be a great way to end the summer,” a press release states.

Covering everything from The Taos Hum to the Loch Ness Monster, the event will also include a non-stop film festival, music and cultural ceremonies, a food court, a variety of vendors with paranormal-related items for sale, fund-raising activities and related events throughout the area.

The symposium is presented by Alliance Studying Paranormal Experiences (ASPE), a nonprofit organization committed to examining paranormal experiences and sharing them with others with similar interests. The event, co-sponsored by Angel Fire Resort, Laguna Vista Lodge, Angel Fired Pizza, The Sangre de Cristo Chronicle and The Taos News, will provide opportunities to meet and learn from people “who dedicate themselves to investigating the unexplained and practicing paranormal modalities,” the release continues.

By definition, “paranormal” denotes phenomena beyond the scope of normal scientific understanding. According to proponents, “interest in and study of the paranormal is at an all-time high, following decades of high-profile movies, television and books covering a plethora of paranormal subjects. Radio programs such as ‘The Jerry Pippin Show’ and ‘Coast to Coast’ boast audiences in the millions, and Larry King’s panel discussion about the Roswell UFO crash was one of his highest-rated programs ever.”

The Symposium will officially begin with a Friday “Meet and Eat” dinner, where pre-paid registrants will have up-close-and-personal opportunities to discuss paranormal research, activities and experiences with headline speakers. Saturday and Sunday will feature headline speakers discussing extraterrestrials and UFO crashes (some reportedly with artifacts), mythical monsters, 2012 prophecies, alien abductions, secret underground bases, crop circles, and religious views of various paranormal phenomena. In addition, an impressive roster of paranormal practitioners will be available for readings, healings, past-life investigations and clairvoyant predictions.

Headline speakers include UFO investigator Dennis Balthaser, New Mexico Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) director Dr. Donald Burleson, and Biblical-perspectives author Guy Malone (all based in Roswell, N.M.), joining California UFO researcher Greg Bishop, British cryptozoologist Nick Redfern, crop circle investigator Dee Gragg, Area 51and Dulce pundit Norio Hayakawa, and alien abductee Niara Terela.

Other practitioners or performers include Terra-Ray and the Blooming Bush Women, hybrid-abductee Cynthia Crawford and clairvoyants-healers-readers Susan Rawlings, Maria Halpin and Naomi Hoshino Horri will be joined by other practitioners with local connections, including popular Taos women’s retreat facilitator Michelle Many and Taos actor, musician, artist and award-winning filmmaker Frederick Aragón.
